JOB TITLE: PARAPROFESSIONAL, PRESCHOOL

SUPERVISED BY:  Building Principal

DAY TO DAY ACTIVITIES SUPERVISED BY: Preschool Teacher 

 

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION: : Provide instruction of preschool students under the supervision of the Preschool Director, including small groups, large groups, and individual instruction to at-risk, special needs and typically developing children.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required of the position. 1.  Supervise children during preschool day by guiding and directing activities and behavior.

2. Assist in implementation of safety at all times by ensuring safe behavior and by monitoring toys, furniture and equipment for signs of damage and possible danger to students.

3. Communicate with parents, including sharing information about the child's day and development and inquiring about the child's needs and routine.

4. Implement and follow-through with the curriculum set by the Preschool Director/Teacher.

5. Communicate with teachers and other staff the academic and/or behavioral progress of students.

6. Use instructional equipment, including computers, in individualized group activities

7. Assist in organizing equipment and supplies, setting-up and cleaning-up snacks/lunch.

8. Assist in preparation of projects, fire drills and emergency procedures

9. Clean rooms after projects and playtime. Wash dishes, do laundry and arrange furniture for the following day.

10. Assist with medically fragile students, handle bodily fluids (including changing diapers), and assist with feeding.

14. Compliance of state licensing regulations.

15. Monitors children in the classroom, on the playground and on the school bus (if applicable).

16. Demonstrates the commitment to build and maintain a safe, fair and respectful working and learning environment that honors the cultural diversity of students and staff.

17. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold a minimum of an associate's degree

  • Experience in the group care of children ages 3-5

  • Effective Communication and interpersonal skills

  • Specialized courses and training to meet applicable state requirements

  • Group leader qualified as stipulated by state childcare licensing state regulations

  • Clerical skills appropriate to the duties of position

  • TB test and physical exam (acquired within 6 weeks of employment), if applicable

  • Valid community First Aid and CPR card (or acquire within 30 days of hire)

  • Physical exam (acquired within 30 days of employment

  • Participate in a minimum of 15 hour training annually required to meet state child care licensing standards.
