Head Start Child Information
The Summit County Head Start grant will provide free preschool to 35 children age 3-5 years from low-income families. Ninety percent of the families served are at 100% of federal poverty guidelines. Ten percent are children with special needs. Head Start works in partnership with the families and the community in providing preschool education, health services for children, and self-sufficiency services to the family. Our Head Start program is a partnership between Summit County Government, Summit School District, Early Childhood Options, and the Family & Intercultural Resource Center.
Summit County Head Start takes pride in participating in an integrated program model within the School District preschool classrooms and community based center programs. The Summit School District Head Start preschool classrooms are in session four days a week (Tuesday through Friday) at Upper Blue, Silverthorne Elementary, Summit Education Center (Silverthorne), and Dillon Valley. Dillon Valley has two preschool classrooms. A half day (morning and afternoon) and full day -located at Summit Education Center. Silverthorne Elementary has two preschool classrooms as well. One at Silverthorne Elementary and one located off site at Summit Education Center. Summit County Preschool in Frisco is our community based center and is open Monday through Friday.
Children will qualify for a full day program if both parents are, or a single household provider is employed, in school or in a training program. Programs focus on the importance of child initiation, creative play, hands-on discovery, and continuous exposure to developmentally appropriate activities for each child.
