What is Head Start?

Head Start is federally funded free preschool for families with incomes below the Federal Poverty Level. It is a comprehensive child development program and the overall goal of Head Start is to increase school readiness of children in low-income families. In Summit County, there are Head Start slots located in the Upper Blue Elementary Preschool, Dillon Valley Elementary Preschool, Silverthorne Elementary Preschool, Summit Education Center and Summit County Preschool. Target families include single parents, immigrant families and children with disabilities.
