The Summit County Head Start started serving children in Summit County in 2003. The grant serves 35 children each year aged 3-5 years from low-income families. Head Start works in partnership with the families and the community in providing preschool education, health services for children, and self-sufficiency services to the family. Our Head Start program is a partnership between Summit County Government (grantee), Summit School District, Early Childhood Options and the Family & Intercultural Resource Center.
Summit County Head Start takes pride in participating in an integrated program model within the School District preschool classrooms and a community based center program. Programs focus on the importance of child initiation, creative play, hands-on discovery, and continuous exposure to developmentally appropriate activities for each child. Head Start children are located in School District classrooms in Dillon Valley Elementary, Silverthorne Elementary and Upper Blue Elementary. Summit County Preschool is our community center.
